DC was born as a planified city and developed in the late eighteenth century to be used as the permanent national capital. It was named after George Washingon, first president of the USA. However, the name Columbia, it is the poetic name of the US in honor to Christopher Colombus.

This museum offers a very interesting way of understanding the history of the United States by images. If you are a fan of history, go inside... if you do not have so much time and you prefer sightseeing, leave it for another occassion and enjoy the rest of the city.






3. Washington Memorial

It's awesome!!! You are not aware of how big it is until you are in front of it. Keep in mind that in 1884 it became the highest building in the world until the Eiffel Tower was built in 1889. It has a height of 170 meters and the accessed to the top it is allowed. From there you will enjoy an extraordinary views of the city. This place it's 'Mecca' of every American.






4Smithsonian Institution and Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

The Smithsonian Institution is a research and educational center that furthermore counts on a museum complex. Beside you can find one of them, the famous National Air and Space Museum. It's super interesting to visit, since it hosts several of those legendary aircrafts that passed into history. In addition, there are replicas and original space stations as well as Apollo 11. Very interesting to dedicate it approximately 2 hours.






5. United States Capitol

Tremendous!! You may think you are getting close to it, but the reality is that there is still missing a long way to reach it. We have seen it in so many movies that on one hand we are not surprised but on the other it stuns us a lot!! It is recommended visiting the interior.








6. Supreme Court of the United States

It is the head of the judicial Power of the U.S. It is a very nice building with a classic style. As a curiousity, the marble used in the facade of the building comes from the State of Vermont, the exterior walls from the state of Georgia, the interior areas from the state of Alabama, the main interior lounge from Spain and the 24 columns in the exterior from Italy.

1. Arlington National Cemetery

This is an interesting walk for lovers of military history or American history itself. We have seen it in so many movies that it is impossible non-stopping. Highly recommended approaching to J.F. Kennedy's tomb and its eternal flame.





2. Statue honoring World War II marines

We love this monument. Specially, the meaning hidden behind it: the exaltations of teamwork and wellbeing... really touching, isn't it? Besides, who has not seen the movie that tells the story of this monument?
If you can see by any chance an army training where soldiers juggle with their rifles ... much better ...






3. Roosevelt Memorial

This is not only a monument for President Roosevel, but also to conmemorate the period he represented.
It is pretty interesting the whole complex set of sculptures, waterfalls, gardens …








4. Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Each memorial monument in the United States is accompanied by a huge wall with all the names of those who died in that war. In this one, we highlight the emotional sculpture of American soldiers, in which are represented the main ethnic groups who participated beside USA in the Vietnam War: African American, Hispanic and Caucasian.






5. Lincoln Memorial

The stunning Greek Doric building hosts one of the most striking sculptures of the memorial complex in Washington DC.
You will be transported to another world and all those snapshots recorded on your retinas will come back to your memory. It is carefully guarded by African Americans, who have a special appreciation and gratitude for this American president who returned them their deserved freedom.

7. Jefferson Memorial

Its views from the artificial lake, created specifically for this monument, are amazing. It is one of the most beautiful from the memorial complex. Within, as in the case of Lincoln Memorial, there is a sculpture of Jefferson.









Besides these places, there some other interesting spots not included in this tour because we wanted to focus on the most important ones. However, they can also be pretty curious, beautiful and worthy like The memorial to the National World War II Memorial, several museum buildings such as American history, national history of American Indians, the National Archives building, etc.

As a final curiosity, remembering the Masonic interest raised in the city after the book "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown, which is a combination of history, pseudo-religion, power struggles, sinister political and codes to decipher . Anyway, for those who love Masons history the city has attracted since always a curious interest.
